New Mexico Jury Sees Pics of Newborn Discarded in a Dumpster

LOVINGTON, NM – Photos of the infant found in a New Mexico dumpster last January were shown to the jury during the attempted murder trail of the child's teen mom, Alexis Avila.

As previously reported, in Jan. 2022, Avila, 18, of Hobbs, was arrested after her newborn baby was found in a dumpster. The infant survived.  At the time of the crime she was charged with Attempted Murder and Child Abuse Resulting in Great Bodily Injury. Then this week the trial against Avila began. Days of testimony included statements from police and doctors. The jury saw evidence including the blood filled bed room and bathroom where Avila gave birth, the articles of trash the baby was with in the trash bag, and of course the infant.

Testimony during the second day of the trial showed the infant, Baby Saul, is healthy and is living with family.

The trial is expected to continue throughout the week. If convicted Avila could spend up at 18 years in prison.
