COLORADO CITY— The murder trial of Shawn Adkins has been delayed and will now be held in late summer in Nolan County.
According to court documents, the Shawn Adkins trial has been reset after a continuance was granted that will move the case from Mitchell County to Nolan County and the trial proceedings will now take place starting either August 7, 2023, or September 11, 2023. The trial was set to begin today, April 11, 2023. This move occurred after a continuance was granted by a 32nd District Court Judge.
Adkins is accused of killing Hailey Dunn, his then girlfriend’s daughter.
Dunn was seen leaver her home in December 2010 for the last time. She had been missing for almost three years before her remains had been found close to Lake LBJ Thomas in Scurry County.
The investigation suspected Adkins but did not have enough evidence to make an arrest until June 2021. Court documents showed that Adkins allegedly murdered Dunn by hitting her in the head with a blunt object.
Not only has Adkins been charged with murder, but also tampering with evidence after he allegedly attempted to conceal her body. Adkins is being held on $2 Million bond.
