4 Americans Kidnapped in Matamoros in Broad Daylight Identified

MATAMOROS, MEXICO – The four Americans from South Carolina who were kidnapped shortly after crossing the border into Mexico at Matamoros have been identified.

On Friday, the four Americans traveled in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates from Brownsville intoMatamoros where the vehicle came under fire by heavily armed men, the FBI said in a statement Sunday.

The Americans were then thrown into a pickup and have not been seen since.

Fox News is reporting that Zalandria Brown, of Florence, SC, identified her younger brother, Zindell Brown, as one of the four victims and said she remains in contact with the FBI and local officials.

Brown said the group was extremely close and that her brother expressed his hesitancy over the trip.

"Zindell kept saying, ‘We shouldn’t go down,’" Brown told the outlet.

A video posted to social media Friday appeared to show men with assault rifles and body armor carrying the four into the bed of a white pickup in broad daylight.

The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately clear, although some appeared wounded or dead.

Photos taken at the scene show bullet holes in the van and its windows smashed.
