SAN ANGELO – San Angelo Independent School District officials Tuesday confirmed that the teen suspect who was arrested for making threats towards SAISD campuses wasn't a student.
As previously reported, on Sep. 11, officers with the San Angelo Police Department and officials with San Angelo ISD were made aware of a social media post that was circulating regarding possible threats toward a local school. Police eventually was able to identify the teen as a 16-year-old resident of San Angelo. SAPD confirmed later, on Sep. 12, that the teen had been arrested and was being charged with terroristic threat.
The school district and San Angelo Police both increased the amount of security at both Central and Lake View High Schools. At the time, social media posts alleged that the child was a student at Lake View.
Tuesday, on Sep. 13, SAISD officials confirmed with San Angelo LIVE! that the suspect was actually not a student at SAISD at all.
"The suspect in custody with SAPD is not a Lake View High School student and has never been," stated Executive Director of Communications Whitney Wood. "He is also not enrolled in our school system."
It is unknown what school system the kid was enrolled in. He is currently in San Angelo's juvenile detention facility.
