Tom Green Co. Sheriff's Office: Deputy Injured in Wild Police Chase

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on Wednesday afternoon and confirmed that a deputy was treated at a local hospital as a result in the high speed chase in North San Angelo.

The following is the release from the TGCSO:

On July 6, 2022 around 12:13pm, SAPD’s patrol division attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a White in color Dodge Dually pickup near the intersection of W. 9th and N. Irving Street.

The driver of the pickup, later identified as 42 year old Shane Keele, failed to stop and proceeded to lead officers on a slow speed pursuit into the North side of town. Keele continued to evade in the vehicle and ended up in the county, where TGSO assisted with the pursuit.

During this time, Keele’s vehicle intentionally struck a marked Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle, causing heavy damage and making it inoperable.  The Deputy was later checked out at the hospital for precautionary measures.

Keele then continued back into the city limits where SAPD and TGSO attempted to deploy “Stop Sticks” multiple times in the path of Keele's vehicle, which he actively avoided.

As the chase continued, TGSO continued to assist as backup for SAPD.  Keele collided with a Red in color GMC Terrain at the intersection of Dallas and N. Van Buren, exited his vehicle, and fled on foot into the median of Houston Harte Expressway. He was pursued on foot by Sheriff's Deputies and SAPD Officers and quickly taken into custody, at which time SAPD took over the investigation.

TGSO is actively investigating the collision that occurred in the county between the suspect and the marked Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle.
