Abilene Man Arrested for Stealing Airport Refueling Truck Following Hit & Run Crash

ABILENE – Abilene Police arrested a 40-year-old transient Abilene man for stealing a truck from the airport and leading police on a chase.

According to the Abilene Police Department, on May 12, Joseph Lee Dosson of Abilene was taken into custody just before 5 a.m.

A call of a hit and run came into dispatch at 4:11 a.m. from a driver who said a large truck had hit their vehicle and fled the scene. The collision occurred at Judge Ely Blvd. and Avenue E.

ACU Police initially made contact with the truck and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver did not stop. Abilene Police Officers joined in the pursuit.

The driver, later identified as Dosson, continued to evade officers for several blocks. Officers used spike strips to stop the vehicle near Industrial and Treadaway. The vehicle, a 2008 Isuzu NPR refueling truck, was discovered to have been stolen from the Abilene Regional Airport.

Dosson, a transient, appears to have acted alone and does not appear to be connected to any other groups of concern. Abilene Police are working in conjunction with our Federal partners and additional charges are possible, upon the conclusion of the investigation.

He is charged with Third Degree Felony Evading Arrest and Second Degree Felony Theft. He is being held in the Taylor County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $60,000.
