Troubled San Angelo Man Sentenced for Threatening to Stab Woman Over Clothes

SAN ANGELO – A San Angelo man has been sentenced for threatening to stab a woman after attempting to steal her clothes from an apartment laundromat.

Today, Jonathan Spiller pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge, a 2nd degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.00.

According to court documents, on October 17, 2021, San Angelo police were dispatched to 4401 Green Valley Trail for a subject with a weapon. When officers arrived, the victim told officers that a male subject she did not know had taken her clothes from the apartment complex’s laundromat. The victim stated that when she confronted the subject, identified as Jonathan Spiller, he dropped the clothes, displayed a knife, and told the victim he would stab her.

The victim feared for her life and felt Spiller was capable of seriously hurting her.

Jonathan Spiller was detained a few blocks from the scene and the knife reportedly used in the incident was found inside his backpack. He was then positively identified as the male subject who threatened to stab her.

Spiller was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on October 17, 2022.

Also, on August 13, 2021, Spiller was also stopped for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. A San Angelo police officer stopped Spiller at the intersection of Junius Street and Howard Street. Spiller did not have the consent of the owner to use the vehicle.

Jonathan Spiller will spend the next 5 years in prison for both the aggravated assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charges.
