SAN ANGELO – A San Angelo man accused of assaulting an 11-year-old girl was sentenced to ten years in prison on Monday morning.
According to court documents, on Apr. 25 at 11 a.m., Michael Aaron Rodriguez, 23, of San Angelo, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Rodriguez was originally arrested in Sep. 2020 after officers with the San Angelo Police Department were alerted that an 11-year-old girl made an outcry of being sexually assaulted. For the original article see: San Angelo Man Arrested for Inappropriately Touching Young Girl
The child told police that Rodriguez had sexually touched her at his residence on the 600 block of S. Oakes. When police asked Rodriguez about the incident he admitted to assaulting the child with his right hand.
Rodriguez was later indicted for the crime on Nov. 12, 2020. In the indictment, Rodriguez was accused of six different crimes. The first was for aggravated sexual assault of a child by using his hand to molest the child.
The second count was for putting his genitals on the child's butt, the third count was for touching the child's breast, and the fourth count was for putting his genitals on the child's butt. All of these indictments were for indecency with a child by sexual conduct.
The fifth count was for injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury for choking the child. Finally the last charge was for online solicitation of a minor. The indictment states that Rodriguez met the child on the internet.
In the plea deal, Rodriguez would plead guilty to counts one, five, and six. For count one he was sentenced to ten years in prison and for counts five and six Rodriguez was sentenced to five years in prison.
These sentences will run concurrently and he will be credited for time served in the Tom Green County Detention Facility. Rodriguez was booked into the jailed on Sep. 25, 2020 and was released on $150,000 bond on Aug. 3, 2021.
He will now be rebooked into the jail and handed over to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
