Former Roscoe City Manager Indicted for Forgery and Fraud Charges

ROSCOE, TX – Former Roscoe, TX City Manager Cody Thompson has been indicted by a grand jury on charges regarding forgery and abuse of official capacity.

Cody Thompson was arrested in October 2021 for abuse of power, a 2nd degree felony. Just before his arrest, Thompson had turned in his resignation that was set to go into effect on November 1, 2021. He was charged with official abuse of power.

According to the city attorney, Thompson’s resignation was a surprise.

Court documents showed that Thompson had used city money to fund “The Lumberyard”, a music venue in Roscoe. This popular location burned down and was said to be a total loss according to the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department.

Thompson allegedly used city credit card to pay for the bands that played at The Lumberyard, house the bands at a local hotel, and pay vendors at the venue.

A checkbook that belonged to the Economic Development Board was discovered in Thompson’s desk. Investigators found checks with forged signatures of board members. The total of the forged checked came to $137,632.19. Thompson did not have the authority to write checks.

The board members did not give permission to Thompson to write checks and claimed to not sign the checks.

Thompson admitted to forging the board member’s signatures in an interview in May.

Cody Thompson had been charged with abusing his power which is a 2nd degree felony and carries a possible punishment of 2 to 20 years in prison.

Obviously a piss poor businessman, and an overt idiot. City managers tend to have an understanding of fiscal responsibility, knowing that city coffers are audited by external examiners at least annually. It defies imagination to believe that this twit really thought that in small town like Roscoe, with it's limited and tight budget, he could repeatedly and regularly raid city funds to minimize expenses for his private enterprise. Lock the SOB up for at least 10 years...... no early release.
