24 Immigrants Rescued from Human Smuggling Attempt in a Box Truck

LAREDO – Laredo North Station agents working at the Interstate Highway 35 (I-35) immigration checkpoint stopped a human smuggling attempt involving a commercial box truck.

The incident happened on Feb. 14, when a rental box truck with two visible occupants approached the primary inspection lane at the I-35 checkpoint.  The driver consented to a non-intrusive scan which revealed several individuals inside the cargo area.  Agents conducted a search and discovered 24 illegal aliens from the countries of Mexico and Guatemala inside.  All subjects, to include the driver and passenger who are both U.S. citizens, were medically screened and provided with personal protective equipment.  All were taken into custody to be processed accordingly.  The case was turned over to HSI for further investigation.

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents will continue to keep the country and communities safe from dangerous criminals as they strive to uphold the agency’s Core Values of Vigilance, Service, and Integrity.
