Lubbock Man Sentenced to 40 Years in 2017 Murder Case

LUBBOCK, TX- A Lubbock man who pled guilty to murder of Landon Terry in 2017 has been sentenced.

Casey Owens, 42, faced 99 years in prison but took a plea deal which lowed his sentence to 40 years.

In 2017, a shooting took place in the 6000 block of 88th street in Lubbock. A woman said Owens was her ex-boyfriend and lived in the house. Owens hit her in the head with a gun and shot Landon Terry.

Police said Owens had entered the residence and waited to ambush the couple.

Terry, who was shot in the chest, left leg, and right arm, was taken to University Medical Center and died later.

Owens turned himself in shortly after the shooting and posted a $500,000.00 bond in 2017. He was placed under house arrest and was not to leave his parents residence in Shallowater, Texas unless authorized to do so.

In August 2021, Owens found himself back in jail after violating his bond. Law enforcement responded to Owen’s residence regarding a wreck and according to EMS and UMC records he had alcohol in his system. His bond was then set for $600,000.00.
