San Angelo Teen Indicted for Damaging Central High School

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo teenager has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury in July for stealing from and destroying San Angelo ISD property.

On May 1, 2021, San Angelo patrol officers were dispatched to Central High School, located at 655 Caddo Street, to a report of a burglar alarm.

Two officers arrived at a building at Central High School with an active alarm.

Two subjects were observed in the area and the officers gave verbal orders to stop. Both subjects looked at the officers and ran off. Neither one of the subjects were caught.

A third officer saw a vehicle reversing without headlights on. This officer stopped the vehicle on the 800 block of West Harris Avenue and detained a single occupant. This person would end up being the defendant, Nicholas William Sanchez.

The investigator arrived and observed multiple windows destroyed at the Oliver Wendell Holmes building. An SAISD employee arrived at the scene and provided estimates for the windows that were destroyed and determined the value at $21,000.00.

Investigators also learned that the building had been entered and other objects and windows were destroyed or damaged.

Several windows to the Albert Schweitzer Hall, the cafeteria, and the Gus Clemens Pool were destroyed. All the damage to these three building would total $7,200.00.

The SAISD employee and investigators watched security video of the subjects enter a school building. Sanchez can be seen in the video wearing light or white colored shoes, dark pants, and a white or light-colored shirt with a dark jacket.

Investigators then met with Sanchez who was seated in the back of a patrol vehicle. Sanchez waived his Miranda rights and was reassured he was free to stop talking at any time.

Sanchez admitted to entering the school building and shooting the school with his paintball gun. The defendant also claimed that he took the vape devices from SAISD. A backpack containing several vape pens and a laptop belonging to SAISD were discovered in the bed of a pickup truck.

Nicholas William Sanchez was booked into the TGCDF on May 1st, 2021 and was released on May 16th on $20,000.00 bond.
