SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man on deferred adjudication for a sex offense, who was given a second chance, was locked up Monday after continuously violating the terms of his probation.
According to court documents, on Aug. 2, Juan Verdugo, 23, was forced to turn himself into the Tom Green County Jail where he will spend the next thirty days.
Verdugo was on deferred adjudication probation for an indecency with a child charge from 2016. He was accused of sexually touching a child that was under the age of 17.
After Verdugo was indicted he was placed on a deferred adjudication. In the deal given by the district attorneys office, Verdugo agreed to spend 60 days in the jail, pay a $1,000 fine, and be on probation for ten years.
Not even half way through the term the court issued a motion to revoke on Verdugos probation. On Jul. 27, the judge in Verdugo's case issued a motion amending his probation.
The document states that he will spend the 30 days in the TGCJ because he: failed to notify his probation officer of a law enforcement contact within seven days, failed to follow rules and regulations of the Sex Offenders Therapy program, failed to avoid communications with persons younger than 17, failed to avoid child safety zones, failed to avoid a residence where a child lives, failed to avoid viewing pornographic material and possessed a device that had access to the internet.
His jail time started on Aug. 2. Once he is out he will continue to his probation.
