San Angelo Man Indicted for Dragging Deputy with Vehicle

 

SAN ANGELO,TX – A San Angelo man has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated assault against a public servant.

On May 18, 2021, a Sheriff’s deputy observed a Honda SUV driving on a public roadway and recognized the driver as Cody Witt. The deputy conducted a traffic stop, had Witt step out of the vehicle, and produce his driver license.

The deputy informed Witt that he had a warrant out for his arrest. Then, Witt got back into the driver seat of the SUV and tried to drive off. The deputy had most of his body in the cabin of the SUV but had both legs hanging outside the vehicle.

The deputy was dragged about 490 feet from where the stop was initially. 

The dash cam inside the deputy's vehicle was on when this altercation occurred. It showed Witt get back into his vehicle and drag the deputy a considerable distance.

The deputy went to the Shannon Hospital for medical treatment and had noticeable bruises and scrapes to his body. 

Cody Witt was booked on 5/18/2021 and is currently being held on $100,000.00 bond.
