SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo child predator was returned to prison on Friday after he failed to complete his deferred adjudication probation.
According to court documents, on Jun. 2, 2018, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to Shannon Medical Center for the report of a sexual assault that had occurred the day prior.
When they arrived, the officers met with the child who told them that she had been raped by 37-year-old Brandon Bennett. She claimed that on Jun. 1 Bennett had picked up the child and her friend. The three went on a joyride around San Angelo until someone suggested to go to Lake Nasworthy.
Before heading to the lake the three stopped by Bennett's house where he picked up his three children. The group then went to the lake but was welcomed by Game Wardens who gave them a citation for being in a restricted area at around 4:47 p.m. They then moved to the beach and began drinking thanks to alcohol provided by Bennett.
After a few wine coolers the three went back to Bennett's residence where the children were given vodka and an "unknown power substance that the child inhaled through her nose." This is when the child told police she had passed out but was awoken by Bennett sexually assaulting her.
Following the assault Bennett took the child home where she was met by her mother who then took her to the hospital.
Police spoke with Bennett who admitted to being under the impression that everyone was over 18. He also claimed that the two girls were "messing around" on the bed and invited him to "join in." He said the interaction stopped after one of the girls peed the bed.
Bennett was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child on Jun. 2, 2018. He made bond on Jun. 7, 2018 but had the $50,000 bond revoked on Jan. 9, 2020 for failure to maintain financial responsibility.
He pleaded guilty for indecency with a child by sexual contact on Apr. 6, 2020. A little over a year into his six year probation Bennett failed to complete his community service hours, make the correct payments, and did not show up for his sexual predator classes. He also tested positive for the use of methamphetamine.
Bennett was returned to the Tom Green County Jail on Jul. 2 at 4:19 p.m.
Bennett was a former DJ at a local San Angelo station. He no longer is employed by the station.
