LAREDO, TX – The Laredo Sector Border Patrol Marine Unit prevented the illegal entry of multiple individuals as they were swimming across the Rio Grande River near Laredo, Texas.
In the early morning of March 4, Agents with the Border Patrol Marine Unit responded to a call for assistance from Laredo South Station agents regarding a group of individuals that were attempting to make an illegal entry through the Rio Grande River.
A search in the high brush area near the riverbank resulted in the apprehension of two individuals. An immigration inspection confirmed both subjects were illegally present in the U.S. and both were nationals of Mexico.
The second incident occurred several hours later when the Border Patrol Marine Unit responded to a report of individuals crossing the Rio Grande River near H-E-B on Zapata Highway. Agents apprehended one individual while nine more drifted back to Mexico on inner tubes.
The Laredo Sector Marine Unit often thwarts illegal activity at the root by disrupting smuggling activities at their entry point. The Marine Unit is instrumental to the border security mission. Their operations continue to be an effective tool in stopping illegal activity at the river.
