Sweetwater Hires New Police Chief

SWEETWATER, TX – The Sweetwater Police Department welcomed a new police chief after announcing Bryan Sheridan would be joining the agency.

A Sweetwater native, Chief Sheridan worked with the Department of Public Safety and has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience.

“Chief Sheridan brings to the job a wealth of experience in law enforcement, a love for this community, and a commitment to excellence," said City manager David Vela. "Our community and the police department will benefit from his leadership. We are glad to have him on board.”

Beginning in May of 1994, Sheridan spent a little over two years at the Nolan County Sheriff's Office. In 2001 he joined DPS, where he remained until he was hired on as Chief of Police for the Sweetwater Police Department in 2021.

The former chief, Brian Frieda, retired in June of last year and is now the City Manager in Ballinger. In his absence Lt. Matt Counts had served as the interim chief for the last 7 months.

Sheridan is not under contract and his salary will be $102,500.
