WALL, TX – A woman suspected of driving while intoxicated was indicted after crashing pickup truck with four-year-old inside the vehicle.
According to court documents, on Sept. 3, a trooper with the Department of Public Safety were dispatched to US 87 near Wall for the report of a major crash.
When the trooper arrived he found a grey Chevorlet pickup. The pickup had driven off the roadway and crashed into the inside guard rail.
The trooper immediately smelled alcohol coming from the breath of the driver, 39-year-old Raven Soto, from Ruidoso, NM. Also on scene was the Soto's four-year-old child.
Soto told the trooper that she had been drinking before she left New Mexico. She was then given a field sobriety test. "she performed poorly," the affidavit reads.
The trooper then read Soto her rights and requested a blood sample. Soto was first taken to Shannon Medical Center and then to the Tom Green County Jail.
She was booked and released on Sept. 3 after posting a $10,000 bond for Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under the Age of 15.
On Nov. 23, Soto was indicted for the charge. She has a post indictment reporting hearing schedule for Dec. 23.
If Soto is convicted she could spend up to two years in state jail and a fine up to $10,000.
