San Angelo Police Detail How They Found Amber Alert Child

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo police said that Guzman contacted them and volunteered to surrender peacefully. Police were asked to respond to the 500 block of E. Harris Ave. where they found the subject of the Amber Alert, 14-month-old Klay Guzman and his father, Matthew Guzman, 28.

Police had been on the lookout for Guzman since early Friday morning s they were given two possible San Angelo addresses where he was possibly hiding. Guzman took his son and fled his estranged wife from her home in Colorado City in the early morning hours Friday. An Amber Alert for so Klay Guzman who is 14 months old was issued Friday afternoon.

The arrest of Guzman happened Saturday at 4 p.m. The elder Guzman was taken into custody with no incident. The child, Klay, was in good health and was turned over to family, police said.

Guzman was arrested on a Colorado City warrant.

According to the Colorado City Police Chief Charles Rice, the 14-month-old child who was the subject of an Amber Alert issued Friday afternoon was found in San Angelo.

According to the Amber Alert issued Friday, 14-month-old Klay Guzman was taken by his non-custodial father, Matthew Guzman, 28, at around 12 a.m. Friday and drove off with the child in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup. 

Guzman was accused of talking his way into his estranged wife’s home and then choking her.

The arrest record for Guzman has not appeared on the Tom Green County jail logs yet. Chief Rice confirmed with KTXS the child was found in San Angelo. The Amber Alert is canceled.

Colorado City is 77 miles northwest of San Angelo where SH 208 meets I-20.
