U.S. Highway 67 Fatal Hit & Run Suspect Arrested

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – Deputies with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office arrested a 23-year-old  subject Wednesday for the hit and run crash which occurred on May 31, 2020 at approximately 2:30 a.m.  

As we reported earlier, through investigation it was determined Jesus G. Lopez of Las Cruces, New Mexico was walking northbound in the southbound lane of Hwy 67 when he was struck and killed.

At approximately 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office Investigators located a potential suspect vehicle in Mertzon, Texas.  The vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet pickup was discovered to have damage consistent with damage which would be consistent with other known information.  Efforts to conceal the damage had been made on the vehicle.  Investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and transported it to San Angelo for evidence processing resulting in the discovery of additional evidence.  Investigators further identified a person of interest in the investigation and were able to identify the driver of the hit and run vehicle.  A warrant was obtained by Tom Green County Sheriff's Office Investigator Sergeant Corey Speck and the following individual was taken into custody.

Mr. Navarro remains in custody at the Tom Green County Jail.  The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
