$100 Bet Leads to Shooting
SAN ANGELO, TX – One person was shot and two were injured after a San Angelo man became irate over a $100 UFC bet.
According to the affidavit, on May 30, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 3800 block of Wild Rye Trail for a call for service. When officers arrived they learned that a man had been shot in the chest and was already transported to the hospital.
The shooter had already fled the scene but witnesses there filled the officers in about what occurred that night. They started by explaining the reason for the gathering at the house was to celebrate a family member's graduation. During which Justin Lujan, 29, knew that another relative would be there who owed him $100 for a bet on a UFC fight.
When the relative who owed money to Lujan arrived a fight ensued. During the fight the relative pulled out a beer bottle to defend himself. The confrontation then escalated and Lujan allegedly got a firearm, loaded it, and shot the relative once in the chest.
The affidavit continues by stating he then pointed the gun at the recent graduate and told him to "back the f--k up". The wife of the relative who had been shot then attempted to intervene and was hit in the head with the pistol.
Lujan then fled the scene and the man who was shot was transported to the hospital.
After learning this, the officers went to his listed address and found Lujan. He was then detained and taken to community hospital for treatment of injuries from the fight.
After he was released from the hospital Lujan refused to talk to police but they recovered the gun as well as a text on his phone stating "he shot his nephew."
He was then arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault of of a family member with a deadly weapon. His bond is set at $150,000.
