Sheriff: 13-Year-Old Won't Be Charged After Shooting Family Member to Protect Grandma

BROWNWOOD, TX – After a 13-year-old boy shot a family member during a domestic disturbance, the Brownwood County Sheriff’s Office has stated no charges are expected to be filed.

According to KTXS, on Sunday deputies responded to a domestic disturbance. Initial reports stated shots had been fired and when deputies arrived, they found “an adult male with a gunshot wound to his lower back.”

The adult male was assaulting his mother and her grandson, the 13-year-old, was worried she would be killed. The teen shot the man in the back with a .30-30 caliber rifle.

Authorities said the man had threatened several other family members and threatened to kill a juvenile relative.

The man was flown by helicopter "to an out of town hospital."
