Can they not just run the license plate or are these pictures that trashy that they can't see it? I'll never understand in today's day and age why surveillance videos and pictures are the worst on Earth.

No, Ryan, they can't just run the plates. This is our opportunity to be crime fighters. You don't do that by complaining into a screen, you do it by finding clues. You can even go both ways and be both a villain and a crime fighter if you just switch when some miscreant contravenes your designs.

This is not the time to sit around playing Nintendogs on a busted DS. This is real life. This is the time to act. We're all adults here, and when we grow up, we'll be president someday. But first, we find clues...

How is that negativity? It's a question followed by my own opinion that surveillance videos and pictures are the worst on Earth.

Maybe she stole the truck and running the license plate wouldn't help. We don't know all the facts so it's better to not cast judgment.

How is asking a question casting judgement? It's simply that...a question. If I was casting judgement I would have said something like, "Man the cops are pretty silly not to run the license plate when it's right in front of them." See the difference? Maybe the vehicle is stolen, but as of yet there has not been an update to this story saying that is a likely scenario.

...these images are as good as it gets, as far as documenting this crime.

This happens all the time, like when a convenient store is robbed -- of course the cameras which are foremost in place to record robberies, are situated 20 feet away, anchored to the corner of the ceiling near the restrooms.

I have a cctv camera surveillance setup on my property, which allows for a 1080p, night vision panoramic view of any activity within 150 feet of my lot. Each camera is situated so that I may get a clear view of anyone approaching any point of entrance, be it my front door, or the alleyway behind my property.

Do a dry run of your property or business, in the mindset of an intruder. Most cameras do well, 8 to 10 feet from the ground, however if you're primary concern in your cash register, it's best to keep a camera directly behind your right or left shoulder, at eye level....rather than near the mop bucket and boxes of Red Bull at the back of your workplace.

Proximity and angle are key to effective surveillance.

In regards to these press releases, why aren't we ever given more than a grainy image or two and a vague mention of the crime committed (e.g. the stolen item/s, the location of the theft)? Details matter.
