DPS Doubles Down on Reward for Missing Woman Connected to Abilene Murder

ABILENE, TX -- The Texas Department of Public Safety has doubled its reward for the case of a missing Levelland woman believed to have connections to a brutal murder in Abilene, KTXS reports.

Stephanie Meeks Henderson disappeared from her home in Levelland in 1993 under unusual circumstances at 21 years old. She was married to Ricky Don Henderson. The reward for information leading to an arrest in her case is now at $6,000.

Ricky, 56, is accused of the murder of Jeannie Quinn, 20, in April 2018. Quinn was found hanging from a tree with her hands bound by a "hard wire."

After an argument with Ricky in November of 1993, Stephanie called her grandmother, a San Angelo resident, to come pick her up from Levelland. Her grandmother drove three hours to Levelland, only to find that her granddaughter was not there. Ricky said some of Stephanie's friends from Hobbs, New Mexico, had come and picked her up to take her to New Mexico.

Things did not look suspicious until Stephanie's grandmother received a letter from Stephanie saying she was now living in Hobbs. The letter was postmarked from Lubbock, which raised red flags. The friends who supposedly picked her up were interviewed by authorities and said they didn't pick her up.

Tests in 2004 between a strand of Stephanie's hair and the saliva on the envelope revealed the saliva was male.

No formal charges have been levied against Ricky in Stephanie's disappearance.

To be eligible for the cash rewards, tipsters must call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477), through the Texas Rangers cold case website or by contacting the DPS Missing Persons Hotline at at 1-800-346-3243. All tips are anonymous.
