Third Person Pleads Guilty in Wildewood Apartments Armed Robbery

SAN ANGELO, TX – The third suspect of the four man team that kicked down doors with guns to rob residents at the Wildwood Apartments pleaded guilty Friday and will face years in prison.

It all began on the night of December 30, 2017. At around 5:30 a.m. Ashley Trevino, Kody Carter, and Colton Beard were asleep in their apartment at the Wildewood Apartments when they were awakened by the violent sound of doors being kicked down by intruders.

Ashley told police that she remembers the door being kicked in by two black males. One of them being tall and skinny while the other was described s shorter and chubby. They were pointing handguns at Trevino and she said she couldn't describe them any further because at the time she was keeping her head down. She was also concerned about the safety of her three month old child who was asleep with her in the bed. The two men then stole Trevino's cell phone, grabbed a handgun, $500 in cash, and a black bag.

While this was happening in one room, Beard and Carter's door had been kicked down as well. The two described the suspect as a white male with facial hair but since it was dark he would not tell if he was wearing a bandana. The robber pointed the gun at the two and demanded their cell phones. They gave them to him and did not leave the room after that.

The San Angelo Police Department was dispatched to the scene after Trevino fled the scene to find a phone to call them. When Police Officers arrived, they were told that the phones had been stolen so they tracked them to the intersection of Johnson and Knickerbocker. The SAPD Crime Scene Technicians were called in and fingerprints were taken off of the stolen phones. On January 3,  the fingerprints came back as a match for Devinie Taylor which Trevino said that she had never met before. No arrest was made that day.

Two days later Trevino received a call from friend Richard Rouse. Rouse told he that had been the person responsible for the robbery that night. The thing Rouse did not know was that she was recording the call. She immediately contacted detectives and let them listen to what was said to her. Police then went to where Rouse was located and arrested him for aggravated robbery.

Rouse told police after he was arrested that he was there and that he and two other black males robbed the apartment with guns. He said that he and his sister's boyfriend "Dex" and his friend went inside the house while the driver of the car stayed outside. Once the job was complete the three got inside the car and took off to the drivers apartment at Angelo Place. Before they could get there though Rouse accidently fired his weapon in the vehicle and left a hole through the floorboard. Rouse also told police that the car was a Mazda Sedan. Rouse's girlfriend at the time told police that she had known about the incident and knew what car it happened in. She then went to Angelo Place with detectives and pointed out the Mazda Sedan.

The same day SAPD officers arrested Devinie Taylor on an outstanding warrant. Taylor told police that he had been involved in the incident and all he knew was that "Dex" was one of the other individuals and afterwards the driver took that to where he lived at the Angelo Place Apartments. Taylor was then arrested for aggravated robbery.

The owner of the car was identified as Michael Wade. The police then spotted the Mazda driving and pulled him over for two outstanding county warrants. While the officer approached the car he noticed a handgun in plain sight underneath the seat. Wade was then placed under arrest and his car was searched. Inside they found a bullet hole going through the floorboard.

Wade was then interviewed after being charged with aggravated robbery. In that interview he told police that his friend "Jo Jo" had called him and asked for a ride. When he arrived he took "Jo Jo" Rouse, Dex Williams-Gillespie, Taylor to the apartment. According to the affidavit, Wade knew something was going to happen because of the tone of "Jo Jo's" voice. He finished by saying he did drive them away from their apartment to Angelo Place.

On January 6, officers contacted Williams-Gillespie and met with him. He was then arrested for aggravated robbery and admitted to using a firearm to rob the three that night.

On October 12, Richard Rouse pled guilty to one count of aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System.

On October 31, Michael Wade pled guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery and was sentence to eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System.

This morning on May 10, Dex Williams-Gillespie pled guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery and is waiting to be sentenced.

The final final member of the group, Deninie Taylor will have a plea hearing on July 7.
