UPDATE: Citizens Jump in to Help Officer Who Was Being Bitten By Shoplifter

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Police Department has released an update about what happened at the Walmart on S. Bryant earlier today.

On May 9, the San Angelo Police Department responded to Walmart on S. Bryant for a shoplifter. When they arrived they identified the woman in the motor scooter as Bessie Limuel. They knew that this was her due to Limuel being in a motorized scooter and driving a light brown passenger car. Earlier this morning there was another shoplifter at the Walmart on Sherwood who stole $500 worth of meat on a motorized scooter driving a light brown passenger car. Police believe that person to be Limuel.

When the first officer arrived, she found the woman who was attempting to flee the scene with a basket full of merchandise in a motorized scooter. The officer attempted to apprehend Limuel but a struggle ensued. This is when Limuel bit the officer in the leg leaving minor injuries.

Two citizens inside Walmart saw the struggle as it was happening and jumped in to help the officer.

Limuel was arrested and charged with assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, and two counts of felony theft of a property. Additional charges may be pending due to the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
