New Information Released on Man who Left Girl in Flaming Car

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man was arrested on Saturday after leaving a girl stranded in a car that was on fire after he crashed it while being intoxicated.

At around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, officers with the San Angelo Police Department received a call about a possible motor vehicle accident at the 600 block of Rio Concho Dr. Police were also told that the driver of the vehicle was running away from the scene.

Police arrived at the scene to find a white car rammed into a pile of dirt that had caught flames, and also had a woman inside but no driver. Police say, they searched the area and found Casey Paul Jurgens, 31, and engaged into a short chase that ended in the area of Roosevelt and Rio Concho Drive. Jurgens told police after he was caught that he did drove off the road, he had been drinking at a bar, and that he would consider himself "F***ed up."

According to an affidavit, the officers noticed that Jurgens had a lack of balance control, slurred speech, and a distinct odor of alcohol coming off of his breath. Jurgens then agreed to use a breathalyzer, and he blew a .13. A witness on the scene told police that he had seen the Jurgens drive off the road way and hit a pile of dirt. When he went to help, Jurgens became confrontational towards the by-stander and then ran away from the scene.

Officers then went to talk to the passenger who was taken to Shannon Hospital. Once there doctors told the officers that she had broken toes on her left foot as well as a broken right arm.

She told officers that the two were arguing about his ability to drive because he was intoxicated. Prior to the crash the passenger rolled down the window and began to scream for help. "He got mad, sped up, and drove off the road," said the passenger to police.

Jurgens was charged for evading arrest, having no drivers license, and intoxicated assault that caused serious bodily injury with a motor vehicle. His bond was set at $15,944.
