SAN ANGELO, TX -- A high speed chase involving a stolen vehicle from Sterling City ended in Tom Green County when Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies spiked the vehicle’s tires.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Justin Baker at the scene, a male suspect stole a white van in Midland and drove it to Sterling City.
While he was at the Tres Amigos Convenience store in Sterling City, he stole a blue 2004 Acura and began driving toward San Angelo on U.S. Highway 87. Sterling County Sheriff’s Deputies began pursuit and radioed the DPS and Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office.
DPS troopers and TGCSO deputies intercepted the vehicle between Carlsbad and Water Valley in Tom Green County. Deputies used spike strips to disable the vehicle.
Trooper Baker says they took the suspect into custody.
Scanner reports from Sterling County indicated the suspect may have said he had a bomb in the car but that is unconfirmed at this time.
Trooper Baker says the incident is still under investigation and they were not identifying the suspect at this time.
