SAN ANGELO, TX — An evening altercation involving juveniles housed at the Tom Green County Juvenile Justice Center sent two correctional officers to the hospital. The incident happened at around 9 p.m. this evening.
According to Battalion Chief Fred Barnett, the San Angelo Fire Department EMS was called to assist sheriff’s deputies, San Angelo police, and DPS troopers who responded to a disturbance at the JJC.
“A few inmates got rowdy in the exercise yard,” Barnett said. Two correctional officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, described as lacerations to the face. The two were transported to Shannon Medical Center’s emergency room for follow-up treatment. The injuries were minor, Barnett said. No juvenile inmates were injured badly enough to be transported to the hospital.
The Juvenile Justice Detention Center at 1253 W. 19th St. is a 25-bed facility where each charge has their own room, according to Tom Green County. Children, ages 10 to 17, being held there are awaiting a court hearing for a crime the minor is accused, or serving a formal probation sentence requiring 24-hour-per-day supervision.

PermalinkSo we have some 10-17 yr old “poor sweet babies” who think its ok to assault public servants. Hey! I know! How about we get that “misdirected energy” put into .... I dunno.. busting rocks, clearing brush... OOOOH HEY money saving idea right here folks! Lets have these baby felons put down some hot mix on these busted a55 streets and work off some fines. Maybe some time doing real work and wearing them out will curb any idea for the next escape attempt or attack on officer.
