BIG SPRING, TX -- On Friday the 21st of September 2018 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to the Big Spring High School due to school staff locating a firearm in the possession of a student.
According to a press release from Big Spring Police Chief Chad Williams, when officers arrived it was found that the School had been notified by a concerned parent who alerted administrative personnel that a student may be in possession of a firearm.
BSHS administrative staff immediately investigated the allegations which resulted in them removing a 16 year old student from his classroom and escorting him to the office.
BSHS Administrative staff then located a Stallard Arms Model JS 9mm pistol within his backpack. The firearm was found not loaded and no ammunition was located.
Big Spring Police Department officers took the juvenile into custody and he has been charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon a Class A Misdemeanor and Places Weapons Prohibited a 3rd Degree Felony.
The Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was assigned this investigation and through their investigation it was found that the 16 year old juvenile had been given the firearm by another juvenile male student of Big Spring High School who was 15 years of age while on school property.
Officers of the Big Spring Police Department then took into custody the 15 year old male from Big Spring High School, transported him to the Big Spring Police Department where he was also charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon a Class A Misdemeanor and Places Weapons Prohibited a 3rd Degree Felony.
At the time of this release, the investigation has not revealed any type of plan of an aggressive act on any student or staff. There is no further information available at this time.
