Wind to Blame in Toppling of Tablets Honoring Veterans in Brownwood, Organizers Say

BROWNWOOD, TX-- Organizers with the Central Texas Veterans' Memorial in Brownwood say there was no foul play in the destruction of the tablets at the memorial, as reported by KTXS.

Instead, a large gust of wind is to blame for the damage according to the memorial's president Harold Stieber.

The tablets were knocked over in May. Damage was estimated over $40,000, per KTXS' report.

Stieber told KTXS they now have the money to rebuild the tablets. In the coming weeks, each tablet will be supported by a stainless steel beam to ensure a similar incident doesn't happen again.

The tablets were installed in 2016 with the names of fallen soldiers from Brown County to honor their sacrifice.

The Central Texas Veterans' Memorial will hold a Veterans' Day event on Nov. 12.
