Second Saturday Shooting Forces Victim to be Flown to Lubbock

ABILENE, TX-- An Abilene teen had to be flown to Lubbock after suffering a gunshot wound on Saturday, KTXS reported.

Police say the shooting happened in the 300 block of College Dr. around 3:00 p.m.

Luis Barrientes, 18, was reportedly shot once in the abdomen after opening the door and quickly closing it on Ethan Caballero, 17.

Barrientes is expected to survive, according to KTXS

According to police, the shooting was a byproduct of an earlier incident in the parking lot of Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant on South 14th St.

Police say they received a 911 call around 2:45 p.m. The caller said a Hispanic male had pulled up next to them in a maroon Chevy and pointed a revolver at them. The caller gave a description of the suspect and the license plate. However, the license plate was incorrect and police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Another 911 call came roughly 10 minutes later to say someone had been shot at 353 College Dr.

Police say Caballero drove to College Dr. to confront Barrientes about a relationship with his girlfriend.

Caballero fled the scene in a maroon Chevy with 17-year-old Alexis Jones.

Police located the two at a restaurant in the 1300 block of N. Judge Ely a short time later.

Abilene police found two handguns in the Impala driven by Barrientes. Police say one of the handguns was stolen the day before in a car burglary at the 1300 block of S. Crockett Street.

Caballero was given charges for aggravated assault, theft of a firearm and possession of marijuana. He was also wanted on two warrants for possession of a dangerous drug and possession of marijuana.

Caballero's bond was set at $126,750.

Jones was charged with possession of marijuana and was released after posting her $750 bond.

This shooting came six hours after a man had been shot dead at an Abilene apartment complex.
