ABILENE, TX-- Police in Abilene are investigating the third homicide in the city this week, KTXS reports.
Police were dispatched to the Bent Tree Apartment Complex on S 25th St. for a welfare check around 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
Abilene PD said Travis Dewayne Moore, 22, was sleeping inside his apartment. Robert O'Neil Henry, 23, then started banging on the apartment door before entering the residence and beating Moore.
Moore then cut his hand after being shoved into a window by Henry.
Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge said Henry was ultimately shot dead in the altercation. Henry was pronounced dead on scene.
Moore was arrested on unrelated charges stemming from a probation violation for marijuana. Moore has been arrested several times for drugs, according to KTXS.
"This is another incident related to drugs," Standridge said.
During a press conference, Standridge said this drug-related incident is not indicative of the complex and does not want people to think negatively of the complex.
On June 15, Moore was involved in another incident at the same apartment complex where he allegedly pointed a shotgun at another man.
Chief Standrige said he has talked to multiple agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, about creating a violent crime taskforce. The purpose of the taskforce is to address the rising drug use and the violent crimes associated with drug use.
