ODESSA, TX — (Press Release) Odessa Police arrested 47-year-old Luis Ortega Anzures early Monday morning for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More “3rd Degree Felony” and Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle “3rd Degree Felony”.

On July 2, 2018 about 3:00 a.m., Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to 8th & Harless in reference to a medical call. Dispatch reported that a female had possibly fallen out of a red Jeep and was laying on the road covered in blood. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 47-year-old female, who was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury.

Other officers responding to the scene observed a red 2016 Jeep traveling eastbound on 16th Street. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop. The listed vehicle eventually stopped near 15th and MacArthur and the driver was identified as Anzures. While making contact with Anzures, officers could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle.

Anzures was later placed into custody for driving while intoxicated. Investigation revealed that Anzures had five prior DWI convictions, enhancing the charge to a third degree felony. Anzures was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

The 47-year-old victim is currently listed as being in critical condition at Medical Center Hospital. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
