Eastland County Sheriff's Office Seized 31 Horses, Investigating Possible Animal Cruelty

DESDEMONA, TX-- The Eastland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible case of animal cruelty after seizing 31 horses on Wednesday, as reported by KTXS.

Most of the horses seized by deputies appeared to be malnourished and "just skin and bones," as KTXS said.

Rescue the Animals, SPCA was also on scene and said there was a "boneyard" on the property as well.

Deputies say the horses were kept in a 10-foot by 10-foot shed with no shade and that most of the horses were without water.

The Humane Society of North Texas was contacted by Rescue the Animals, SPCA to assist with the horses.

As of right now, no charges have been filed.

They will rot in Hell...but I'd like to see them rot in prison for a while. Crimes against children and animals are not well accepted among the prisoners...

There is no punishment harsh enough for whoever is responsible. Same goes for punk drug slinger Jadarian what's-his-name that wants probation and a job. Get a rope!

31 years is not enough but it is a start for punishing those responsible for this outrage. My heart breaks to see that beautiful animal suffering so much. Only a monster would allow this to happen.

I agree that this is a terrible incident, I came to comment about "Prison Misconceptions". People tend to think they know something about prison and most of that is based on television and movies...

In Texas anyway, inmates now can receive criminal charges for things like assault and rape, just as if they were in the free world... Not too many want to add time to their sentence by interfering in other prisoners lives... It's not the "rock and roll" prison system it used to be 20 years ago.

Doing time kind of has a "don't ask, don't tell" policy... The only reason anyone's going to worry about what crime you committed is if you want to join their "Gang". Even then, it seems like they just accept anybody today... I know that folks have some sort of pre-conceived notion about how certain prisoners will, "get what's coming to them", but that's not reality anymore. Very seldom, will someone risk adding time to their sentence for another. I will say that you are right in one regard, the inmates do look down on certain types of crimes.

It should make some you feel better to know that prison is a place where some will "rot". Let's just hope that the "rotten", don't have release date's or we may end up with something worse than what we gave them in the first place.

Hope they can nurse these horses back to the fine specimens they once were.

As a retired Officer of the Court, I can assure you my opinion is not uninformed...Lifers have nothing to lose and stature to gain by imposing all the misery they can on pedophiles, rapists and animal cruelty ; up to and including death.

You have no experience with what happens inside, outside of hearsay. Typical for those who have only heard all of the egregious "war" stories that emanate from within.

As an "ex-con", I think I have more experience to work with than you... I served over 5 years between the juvenile and adult systems.
I never met a lifer that was not gang affiliated... If you know so much about TDCJ, you would know that a confirmed gang member is placed in the "STG", or security threat group. That means they are confined to "Ad-Seg", administrative segregation. 23 hour a day "lock-down".

While I respect that you are correct in your belief that the sub-society of prison's all over, not just Texas, have an unspoken rule of hatred for certain types of criminals... They don't run around "shanking", every sex offender, wife beater, and animal neglect-er. If that was the case, our prison system wouldn't be so full now would it?

Some of the "lifers" in the prison system are actually the most well mannered and respectful inmates... Pretty much, if you stay out of their way, they'll stay out of yours... Why make their own life uncomfortable if it's not necessary? Prison is, after all, their home for the rest of their days.

You make it sound as if their are those who do nothing more than "hunt" around all day, "hey man, what you in for?" and when they come across one of the unfortunates on the list, they just kill them. Not how it happens.

Thank you for your service to our society in your role as an officer of the court... Not all of us who have been inside hate you guys and the police, "had to throw that in there", it's another misconception.

There are numerous incidents in which an inmate has killed another because of the origin of his incarceration, but those are by and large the exceptions, not the rule. I've eaten at the table with a murderer on one side, and a child molester on the other... Nobody died.

I like watching "MSNBC's, LOCKDOWN" as well, but Texas Prisons aren't what people say or what the media portray's.

Here's the updated 2017 "Offender Orientation Handbook", lots of information in their on how to report any whiny baby little incident to keep offenders safe.
