San Angelo police said they were alerted of his whereabouts, in a vacant house at 300 block of E. 45th Street, and went there early Sunday morning to serve the arrest warrant. Police intelligence said he was armed, and he was also a convicted felon accused of possessing a firearm, so officers applied maximum caution.

“Initial responding Officers arrived and observed movement inside the house and subsequently established a safety perimeter and requested the Crisis Negotiations and S.W.A.T. Teams,” stated police spokeswoman Cpl. Tracy Gonzalez.

Even the San Angelo Fire Department staged nearby in the event emergency medical response was needed.

The San Angelo Police SWAT officers went into the residence where Baeza was holding up at 11:30 a.m. He was arrested without incident. The standoff was completed at 11:34 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police said a firearm was located inside the vacant residence where Baeza was.

Police are looking at additional federal firearms charges to be leveled against Baeza.

SAN ANGELO, TX — With long guns drawn and the San Angelo Police Department’s mobile command center positioned in place, San Angelo began an otherwise sleepy Sunday morning with a standoff with an armed suspect barricaded in a house starting at just after 9 a.m.

At a little white clapboard house at the intersection of E. 45th St. and Alamo, just east of the Foster Communications Coliseum, police were sure that a suspect inside the house was wanted for a warrant out of Hobbs, New Mexico.

SAPD Spokeswoman Cpl. Tracy Gonzalez said they were tipped off the suspect was in town and at the location. Details are sketchy this early about how this became a SWAT standoff, but Gonzalez said officers called for it after seeing movement. They requested the SAPD’s crisis response team, which included SWAT and crisis negotiators.

As the scene unfolded, the SAPD patrol division setup a wide perimeter around the house, pushing the news reporters further and further back. SWAT was in charge of an inner perimeter.

The guy was surrounded and neighbors were asked to stay inside. But the neighbors seemed appreciative the SAPD was cleaning up the neighborhood.

One neighbor said the house where the incident unfolded was usually vacant. One owner of another nearby residence offered the SAPD an electrical cord, run from their outside outlet to the SAPD mobile command post. Gonzalez said the SAPD was extremely grateful for the aid of the citizens.

The suspect barricaded in the house was a wanted on a felony warrant out of New Mexico. SAPD said he had a New Mexico warrant for a felon in possession of a firearm. He was considered armed and dangerous.

While crisis negotiators attempted to resolve the standoff peacefully, the SWAT team was ready just after 11:30 a.m. They entered the residence and took down the suspect with no injuries to either the suspect or SWAT officers. The operation was over at 11:34 a.m.

The man was booked into custody and transported to the Tom Green County Jail where New Mexico authorities will come and get him.

She was found by police suffering of a single gunshot wound and died a short time later at a Hobbs hospital.

Hobbs police said they were searching for two persons of interest in connection with the shooting, 36-year-old, Jose Acosta, of Hobbs, and 35-year-old, Angel Beaza, also of Hobbs.
