Fugitive’s Fake Identity Dissolves During Police Inquiry

SAN ANGELO, TX – On Tuesday night San Angelo Police Officers apprehended a suspect for suspicious activity; he then provided a fake name when questioned by police.  Matthew Gerard Soto, 28, told officers his name was “Brian Alkaseltzer”, but officers were soon able to discover his true identity.

The whole ordeal began after officers were dispatched to Angelo Heights to check out a sketchy suspect in the area at approximately 6:40 p.m. According to the press release, the suspect was seen running around the area and going into people’s yards. The initial description was a man wearing all black and with several tattoos on his head.

When officers arrived at the area they spotted an individual who appeared to match the description, but he fled the scene as soon as he saw the patrol car in the vicinity. As the officers continued to search they were approached by a citizen who stated having observed a strange suspect hiding between a home and a vehicle. When the officers began their search on foot another citizen approached them stated that he had just allowed a suspicious individual to enter his home to use the telephone and wondered if he might be related to the search the officers were conducting.

The officers then proceeded to enter the home where they discovered a suspect matching the initial description they had received. The man then failed to comply with the officers and was placed in custody. When asked for his name, he replied it was “Brian Alkaseltzer”.

After investigating, they discovered Soto’s real name and realized he had an outstanding warrant for a MTR Parole Warrant. He was then transported to Tom Green County jail without incident and booked for his warrant and for Failing to Identify Fugitive From Justice.
