Brownwood Man Involved in Meth Ring Charged with 25 Years in Federal Court

 

BROWWOOD, TEXAS – This past Wednesday the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas announced that Billy Ray Skaggs, 49, a local Brownwood man, was sentenced to 25 years in federal court for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy that operated in north Texas.

 

After a 4-day trail, Skaggs and six other defendants were sentenced with “Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine” in September of 2016. Details further show that their meth ring operated for over two years form January 2014 – April 2016.    

 

Attorney’s on the case were able to indict the seven defendants by presenting evidence such as text messages and phone call recordings. The Star-Telegram also reported that The Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Fort Worth Police Department were all apart of this investigation.

 

Furthermore, Skaggs has been arrested numerous times in Brown County; his last being in February 2015.
