San Angelo Man Says Will Plead Not Guilty for Shooting at Woman and Family in Car

SAN ANGELO, TX --  Levi Todd Turner, who has been behind bars since January 2015 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and who maintains his innocence, was in court this morning during a motion hearing.

According to court documents, the purpose of the hearing was to hear the following: Motion for Exculpatory Evidence, Motion for Copy of Jury Panel Criminal History Record Information, Motion to Qualify Experts and Conduct Gatekeeper hearings, Motion for Witness List, Motion to Suppress, and one more.

Turner has been behind bars after firing a gun at a woman and her family in a fit of road rage on Avenue N in early 2015. In a previous story, a woman claimed that she had honked her horn at a white male after a blue 2002 Mercury sedan cut her off and narrowly missed hitting her car. No one was injured, but the woman, her husband, and child were in the vehicle at the time of the gunfire. Though he initially got away, San Angelo Police K9 Officer Fincher later found Turner's car after witnesses provided a suspect description and license plate number of the blue vehicle.

This morning, Judge Ben Woodward and state and defense attorneys set one last Pre-Trial date for the first week of February before the start of Turner's jury trial. After a short debate over evidence and witness testimony, Judge Woodward asked Turner how he will plead.

Turner replied, "I plead not guilty."

Turner further claimed that the "state has been non-negotiable" and expressed his concern that is he is "being targeted" by the state. Furthermore, the defense attorney expressed concern over a tainted "one-person lineup."

Judge Woodward concluded the motion hearing by reminding Turner that any plea offers that "have been made, or will [be made], expire on February 3."

Turner's last Pre-Trial is set for February 7 at 9:00 a.m.
