Killeen Woman Arrested for Murder of 2-Year-Old Cousin

KILLEEN, TX - Police say that a Central Texas woman, Shayla Dearinge, 26, has been charged with the murder of her 2-year-old cousin.

As Dearinge was arguing with the boy’s mother, she fatally shot her cousin. Killeen police said that Dearinge was being held Monday on a murder charge, with a bond of $1 million.

News source KTXS reported, “Police spokeswoman Carroll Smith says the shooting happened Saturday at Dearinge’s home when she and her aunt – the boy’s mother – got into an argument. Smith says the aunt and her son were leaving when the suspect shot in the direction of the pair.”

Dearinge’s cousin later died on Saturday at the hospital due to his injuries. He would have turned three on Monday.

There was no information given on what initiated the argument.
