Two Assault Arrests: Rake and Box Cutter Used as Weapons

This was a weekend for assault related arrests. Not only did one man assault a San Angelo man yesterday and steal his car (see here), but two others, 46-year-old Johnny Pena and 31-year-old Brandon Alan Banks, went after two victims with a rake and a box cutter.

San Angelo Police Sgt. Matt Vaughn said on Aug. 26, at approximately 3:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Shelton St. in reference to a domestic disturbance.

“As officers arrived, they observed the defendant, Johnny Pena, attempting to strike a 33-year-old female victim with a rake,” said Sgt. Vaughn.

Officers took Pena into custody without incident, for he had calmed down upon seeing officers. He was arrested for Assault (Class C) Family Violence.

This is Pena’s 18th arrest in Tom Green County.

As for Banks, on Aug. 28, at approximately 8:46 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Brown St. in reference to a robbery call.

“Upon arriving, they spoke with a 51-year-old victim who informed him that an argument had occurred between the suspect, Brandon Banks, and himself,” said Sgt. Vaughn. “During the argument, Banks displayed a box cutter and threatened the victim.”

Vaughn added that the victim was able to provide a good description of Banks, and officers located him at MLK Park a short time later.

“Banks was detained, and found to be in possession of the same type of box cutter that was described by the victim,” said Vaughn. “Banks was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.”

This is Banks’ 4th arrest in Tom Green County, and his bond is set at $30,000.
