For the past 24 hours, a few of San Angelo’s finest kept local law enforcement busy. Since our last update, 27 people were arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
Once more, warrants topped the arrests at 17, one person had warrants and one new complaint, and nine people had new complaints.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, provided a long list of arrests that took place beginning at 2:30 p.m. yesterday.
First and foremost, officers arrested Miranda L. Ortiz, 29, who had possession of marijuana < 20 oz. She was also arrested for the continuous sexual abuse of a child.
“At this time, we are not able to release any information about this arrest, as it as an active investigation,” said Gonzalez.
Also, just after 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Medina Street for the report of a stolen vehicle and a name of a possible suspect involved. The alleged stolen vehicle was located in the 1000 block of Volney, along with a named suspect and another subject.
Police detained Tara Mirelez, 27, and Modesto Cortez, 24, in handcuffs. During the detention, Mirelez ran from officers, but was immediately taken into custody. She was arrested for Evading Arrest/Detention, and Cortez was arrested for an outstanding warrant. CID was also consulted.
“The owner of the vehicle did not pursue charged for the unauthorized use of the vehicle; however, Mirelez and Cortez were transported to the TGCJ on the other charges.
Just after 10 p.m., an SAPD officer initiated a traffic stop on a maroon Ford Ranger in the 1100 block of Millspaugh.
“It was discovered that the vehicle’s registration sticker had been altered and the driver was driving while his license was invalid,” said Gonzalez.
Cruz Falcon was arrested for driving with an invalid license with prior convictions and for displaying a fictitious motor vehicle registration.
