Yesterday afternoon, San Angelo Police arrested the suspect wanted in connection to last week’s burglary at ODIN Firearms outside a residence in Southwest San Angelo.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said detectives with the San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations, Street Crimes, and Patrol Divisions have worked continuously to locate 29-year-old Joe Garrett Stanley since obtaining a warrant for his arrest last week.
“After following up on several leads, Detectives obtained information about the possible whereabouts for Stanley at a residence in the 200 block of Glenna Drive,” said Gonzalez. “Around noon yesterday, Officers positively identified Stanley as he left the residence and drove away. Shortly thereafter, Stanley realized he was being followed and attempted to return to the residence on Glenna Drive.”
Gonzalez said Stanley was taken into custody at gunpoint, and police located a firearm inside the vehicle he was operating.
Following Stanley’s arrest, Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard issued a Search Warrant for the residence.
“During the search, police seized evidence related to the case; however, the handguns stolen from the ODIN burglary were not located and they remain at large,” stated Gonzalez.
Stanley was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Unlawful Possession Firearm by a Felon, Theft of a Firearm, and several outstanding arrest warrants. His total bond comes out to $77,026 with court costs of $1,081.
This is Stanely’s second arrest in Tom Green County.
Gonzalez said the Department’s CSI and Crime Analysis Units also played a vital role in this investigation. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is providing assistance in the case and additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation. Detective Noel Anderson is the lead Detective for this case.
In addition to Stanley, 58 people were arrested over the weekend. This includes the driver in yesterday’s crash (see here), Donald Edward Barrois, 41. Some readers believed Stanley was the one involved, but that wasn’t the case.
Gonzalez said after the crash on Kenwoood Drive, officers conducted a routine check. Barrois was found to have two outstanding county warrants: one for failure to maintain financial responsibility, and another for failure to appear.
Also arrested on an outstanding warrant was Michael Lawrence Evans, 27. Gonzalez said officers arrested Evans on Aug. 6 after a traffic stop at the intersection of S. College Hills Blvd. and Trinity Ave. He had an outstanding warrant for Indecent Exposure. This was his third arrest in Tom Green County for the same offense.
“Evans was also issued a citation for expired registration,” Gonzalez said. “This occurred around 2:20 a.m. on the 6th.”
Finally, another noteworthy arrest this weekend was that of Randall Dean Bretz, 57. Tom Green Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him for criminal trespass and for attempting to take a weapon from an officer. This is Bretz’s fourth arrest in Tom Green County. His crimes include DWI and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Overall, there were 26 warrant arrests, 28 new complaint arrests, and four people had both new complaints and outstanding warrants.
