Robbery, One-Armed Man and Warrants Top Holiday Weekend Crimes

Over the 4th of July weekend, 74 people were booked into the Tom Green County Jail, and warrants made up the majority of those arrests. Also, to make the booking report were 34-year-old Brandon ONeil and 38-year-old Bolivar Newkirk.

ONeil was arrested this weekend for robbing two convenience stores on Bryant Blvd. and Ben Ficklin Road. See story here.

Additionally, San Angelo Police said they arrested Newkirk and charged him with aggravated robbery following an incident that happened in the women’s restroom.

According to the police, a clerk at Lowe’s Grocery Store, 1926 N. Bryant Blvd., relayed a report to police of hearing a woman screaming, and the sound coming from the area of the restrooms. The clerk then said to police she was witnessing a one-armed man running out of the front of the store.

San Angelo police went on a hunt to find the suspect.

Earlier yesterday, before the Lowe’s incident was reported, police were sent to the Whataburger at 1830 N. Bryant Blvd. for a report of a “suspicious subject with only one arm.” Officers made contact with Newkirk. Officers did not have any reason at the time to detain Newkirk, so he was released. Newkirk went outside and rolled up a window on a vehicle in the parking lot and left on foot behind Whataburger.

The Officers on scene, however, were suspicious because Newkirk stated he was on his way to work at McDonald’s, but he left walking in the opposite direction.

Police attempted to locate Newkirk again, but were unable to. Police then sent out a notification to the media to be on the lookout for the subject. Police responded to Lowe’s after the conversation with a clerk there, collected the information, but were still unable to locate Newkirk at that time.

Police did make contact with a female victim who reported being assaulted in the restroom. She also reported the man had taken her cell phone from her. The victim received minor injuries.

Police detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into this incident. During the investigation, Newkirk was seen walking in the unit block of W. 18th St.

Police responded to that location and took him into custody without incident.

Newkirk was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where he was booked for Aggravated Robbery.

This makes Newkirk's 4th arrest in TGC, and his crimes include family violence, public intoxication and three aggravated robbery arrests.

Including ONeil and Newkirk, 28 people were arrested on new complaints, eight people had both new complaints and warrants, and one arrest was not set. Warrants, however, topped the report with 37 arrests.
