Big Spring Policeman Shoots Suspect Involved in Domestic Dispute

 

Police shot a Big Spring man while police broke up a fight between the man and his father last night at approximately 11:40 p.m..

According to the Big Spring Police Department, officers were dispatched to 901 S. Runnels St. in Big Spring to break up a fight between a father and his son. Manuel Romero Lozano, III, 43, threatened his father, Manuel Romero Lozano, Jr., 72, with a large knife. Police attempted to subdue the younger Lozano with a Taser and the results were ineffective.

As the physical struggle ensued, the son slashed his father’s abdomen with the knife and then used his father as a human shield from police and continued to physically assault his father with the knife.

Police said that in the close-quarters struggle, one of the officers was able to get a clear shot of the son with a handgun and shot him in the right hand. Police took the son down and arrested him.

Police called the Big Spring EMS who transported both father and son to Scenic Mountain Medical Center for treatment.

Later, Manuel Jr. was flown by helicopter to University Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment of the laceration to the abdomen. Manuel Romero III was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment to his hand.

One of the officers involved received minor injuries to his foot and was treated and released by Scenic Mountain Medical Center.

The Texas Rangers were notified to respond due to the officer involved shooting. The officer involved has been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

Manuel Romero III is pending charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a Felony 2 offense and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer a Felony 1 offense.
This is now an ongoing investigation conducted by the Texas Rangers.
