Weekend Arrests Kept San Angelo Law Enforcement on Their Toes

This weekend was a busy one for law enforcement agencies in San Angelo. Not only did the Tom Green County Jail witness a lot of detainees, but officials dealt with a wide array of offenses that extend beyond the norm of alcohol and marijuana. Additionally, a few of the individuals arrested thought they might flee capture.

One such person, Elizabeth Escobedo, 30, who was arrested for DWI Friday, originally attempted to flee arrest, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department. Solsbery said when police attempted to pull her over, she refused to do so.

“She was never driving at a high rate of speed; she just would not pull over for a while,” Solsbery said.

He added that Escobedo probably failed to do so because of her intoxication. As a result, the San Angelo woman added Fleeing a Police Officer to her record.

Apparently, Friday was the night for evading officers. Abelardo Arreola, 17, and two other unidentified subjects were seen by a complainant looking into the windows of vehicles in the area of Woodruff and Van Zandt. Solsbery said when the juveniles saw officers arriving, they ran; however, the suspects were seen hiding in the 500 block of Kennedy St.

“[They] were told to stop and they ran again,” Solsbery stated. “Officers were able to catch the juvenile and Arreola. The other two got away.”

The juveniles weren’t the only ones with theft on their mind this weekend. On Saturday, Ramon Valadez, 28, of San Angelo went to Target and attempted to use a magnetic key to unlock security devices from store merchandise. Unfortunately for the suspect, an employee witnessed Valadez attempting to use the magnetic key and called police. When SAPD officers attempted to make contact with Valadez, he admitted to having the magnetic key and police arrested him without incident.
