San Angelo Man Arrested for Distribution of Child Pornography

Today, Sheriff David Jones announced that investigators with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office executed an evidentiary search warrant in the 300 block of North Van Buren in Northwest San Angelo. This search warrant authorized investigators to search for and collect evidence for the offense of Distribution of Child Pornography, said a press release Monday.

According to the press release, Tom Green County Sheriff’s investigators seized several electronic devices that contained images of child pornography. These devices belong to Dustin R. Carnes, 37. Investigators arrested and charged Carnes with one count of Possession of Child Pornography, which is a 3rd Degree Felony.

Also, investigators arrested Athena Marie Smith, 37, at the scene of the warrant. Smith was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, less than one gram, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The press release stated that these arrests were the culmination of several months of investigating child pornography by members of the TGCSO Criminal Investigation Division. The Texas Department of Public Safety assisted in the execution of the warrant.

“We are committed to protecting the children from exploitation and abuse,” said Jones.
