On Oct. 25, 2015, right before 3:35 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter, 610 W. 29th St., for a report of an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and theft. Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said the San Angelo man wanted in connection with this incident was arrested yesterday.
Originally, at the scene, police learned Walmart Lost Prevention staff observed the man, identified as George Delacruz, Jr., 40, and a woman load items into a shopping cart. They left the store without paying, and when a Loss Prevention staff member attempted to follow and obtain a license plate, the man discarded the stolen items and threatened the staff member at knifepoint. The man and woman then fled the scene in a vehicle driven by a third subject.
Walmart staff did recover the stolen items, which totaled over $300, and no injuries were reported. The incident was also caught on surveillance camera. Criminal Investigations Detective Lynn Dye was able to obtain information about the location of the get-a-way vehicle and identified the male and female suspects.
The detective obtained an arrest warrant for Delacruz, Jr., and the suspect was located yesterday at a residence in the 2100 block of Juanita Avenue; police took him into custody for questioning. Following the interview, Delacruz was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly weapon. Additionally, officials have identified the female suspect, and Gonzalez said charges may be forthcoming.
The PIO added that this is an active investigation and no other information is available.

In this man's defense, the checkout lines at Wal-Mart are way too long and the staff are always testy.
