Over $666,000 in Illegal Drugs Seized by DPS Trooper on IH-40

AMARILLO – Another traffic stop conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety Monday on IH-40 yielded over four pounds of methamphetamine valued at over $409,000 and two pounds of heroin valued at over $257,000, said a press release Wednesday.

According to the press release, a DPS trooper stopped the driver of a 2002 Nissan Altima, Eduardo Cerda Esquivel, 18, of Oklahoma City, who was traveling eastbound on IH-40 at approximately 4:21 p.m. for a violation near Bushland in Potter County. During the stop, the trooper discovered five vacuum-sealed bundles of methamphetamine and one vacuum-sealed bundle of heroin in the gas tank.

After the discovery, the trooper placed Esquivel under arrest for possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams, a first-degree felony, and booked him into the Potter County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Phoenix to Oklahoma City, DPS stated.
