A man who has been sent to the jail three times in the last two weeks for public intoxication was jailed again on the charge on Friday after walking into an apartment and assaulting a responding police officer.
On April 24, at approximately 6:29 p.m., police were dispatched to the Candlelight Apartments, located at 15 E. 31st, in reference to an intoxicated subject.
Upon arrival, police learned a male subject, Otis Woodfin, Jr. 29, had walked into one of the apartments on the property and that he was not wanted on the premises. Officer C. Barker and Officer T. Burks located Woodfin and found him to be intoxicated.
The officers began to take Woodfin into custody. Woodfin ignored several verbal commands and began to physically resist the officers. Woodfin was taken to the ground in order to attempt to get control of him. While on the ground, Woodfin kicked officer T. Burks in the pelvic area causing pain and minor injury.
The officers were able to gain control of Woodfin and take him into custody. Woodfin was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Public Intoxication, Interference with Public Duties, and Assault on a Public Servant.
Incidentally, Woodfin had just been released from jail that same day on personal recognizance for public intoxication.
Woodfin has been in jail repeatedly for public intoxication recently, having been called in as a suspicious subject at various locations.
